Born in Dayton, Ohio in 1984, poet, pianist, and composer Eliot Cardinaux has worked in the improvised music world for over 15 years. He currently lives in Boston, where he works with musicians such as Mat Maneri, Thomas Morgan, Kresten Osgood, Eivind Opsvik, Asger Thomsen, and Flin van Hemmen, as well as in New York City, and in Copenhagen, Denmark. He is known within the improvising community on the East Coast and in parts of Europe for his light-handed touch at the piano, and for his patience and clarity in developing ideas within the framework of music and poetry. He has been published in Caliban, Big Big Wednesday, Hollow, and Bloodroot Literary Journal. He is also the founder of The Bodily Press. Cardinaux performs and records regularly, with groups and musicians such as American Thicket, Gestures, The Gown of Entry, and Magpie, as well as in miscellaneous groups, and in a solo setting. Cardinaux’s first album as a leader, American Thicket, was released in 2016 on Loyal Label, and features Mat Maneri (viola), Thomas Morgan (bass), Flin van Hemmen (drums and percussion), and the author himself (piano, voice, and poetry).
